Tackle Overwhelm in 2 Easy Steps

images

Do you ever feel overwhelmed? Do the things that need to get done outnumber the amount of hours in your day? Your mind starts to race and you don’t know how you will complete all that needs to get done! I know I can’t be the only person who experiences this feeling of overwhelm. I have had to really dig my feet in to figure out how to help myself during these “episodes”. I believe I found ways to bring myself back from these spins and I wanted to share them with you. Two simple steps we can all do and easily!

My hope is that through my own self work, struggles, expansion and growth I can save some of you some of the leg work. However, you’ll still have your own growth, leg work and expansion to work through, but perhaps these steps will make the process a little less painful.

Step 1

Take deep breaths, I told you simple right? Learning how to breathe and using your full diaphragm is essential to helping with overwhelm. I can’t stress this enough, learn how to breathe!  Once you do you’ll see how deep breathing is powerful, healing and immensely helpful. You can learn this through meditation, yoga or even with breathing videos on YouTube. Find the way to learn these techniques that best suits you. The how isn’t as important as the action of learning, practicing and perfecting.

Step 2

The other big life saver is lists! Make them, lots of them! Seems so simple…. and it really is! Before you even get to the overwhelm point or even after, make a list. A list of what you have to get done, a list of the time that is needed for the tasks, a list of the resources you have available or will need in order to get it done. Then don’t forget the most important list, a list of blessings.

If we can first organize what it is that overwhelms us it will help us realistically find ways to bust it out. So often when we are overwhelmed it is our natural instinct to duck and cover. To ignore what it is that overwhelms us. This just builds the overwhelm. Let’s list it out so that we can become task oriented. This takes away the “I don’t knows” and sets in motion realistic goals and timelines.

Then list out your blessings. The more we can focus on the positive, even if it is hard to find the positive, the easier it is to deal with the less than ideal stuff.  It’s heart warming to look at the positive in the midst of an overwhelm. Blessings continue to come when we focus on what we already have.
